Planning Permission Granted for Community Hub
Architect's impression of the future Grand Hall. Following the granting of planning permission and listed building consent, the Community Hub is one step closer to becoming a reality.
On 3 June 2026, the Community Hub reached an important milestone as planning permission and listed building consent were granted for the project at 31 Granby Street.
This significant achievement follows many months of planning, design development, and consultation, bringing the vision for the Community Hub one step closer to reality.
The approved plans will see the transformation of one of Leicester's historic landmarks into a vibrant space for wellbeing, culture, learning, and community connection. The project includes a new Grand Hall, Community Café, Courtyard, community kitchen, and supporting facilities, carefully designed to respect and preserve the character of this Grade II listed Victorian building while adapting it to meet the needs of today's community.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this achievement, including our architects, Goodrich Cutler Associates, Leicester City Council officers, members of the planning committee, project supporters, and all those who have offered their encouragement and expertise throughout the process.
With more than £900,000 raised towards the £1.4 million project, the Community Hub continues to gain strong momentum. Following the granting of planning permission, we are now moving into the next stage of the project, including the selection of a contractor to deliver the approved works.
Once complete, the Community Hub will provide a welcoming place for residents, students, families, professionals, and visitors to come together through cultural events, wellbeing programmes, learning opportunities, community service initiatives, and celebrations.
This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity and support of our community. As we continue our fundraising efforts, we invite everyone who shares this vision to help us raise the remaining funds needed to bring the project to completion.
Together, we are creating a space that will serve Leicester for generations to come.
